When preparing for a road trip it can be easy to overlook things to pack. Also, things can happen that you weren’t prepared for. To help with what to pack, we’ve created this short list. Most people already have phone chargers in their vehicle and remember to pack snacks, so we’re going to keep it simple and put three items we believe to be most important. The first item we’ve selected is a bit more fun, your favorite CD. Now, we know that everyone uses their phone to listen to music nowadays using Bluetooth, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, but what happens when there’s no phone signal and you didn’t download your playlist before heading out? Maybe listen to silence with your friends on a gorgeous day. Or, pop in an uninterrupted set of jams. Remember, no sleep till Brooklyn! The second item on our list is fix-a-flat. A can of fix-a-flat is like riding with a superhero. If your tire loses air it can really change the trajectory of the trip, especially if there isn’t a spare in the car. Loss of tire pressure may not even be your fault because winter weather affects tire pressure. All you do is shake the can for 30 seconds, plug the provided hose into your tire air valve and press the button. It’s that easy! It will fill your tire up enough to get to a gas station to air it up the rest of the way to get you another 3 days or 100 miles. It’s an awesome tool to get out of a tough situation. The third item is a printed map. Again, cell phones lose service and if there isn’t another form of navigation in the car, you could wind up on an undesirable detour. Sounds scary right? Not if you have a physical map. Print one out and get it laminated in case it’s raining so it doesn’t get wet, or grab one at your nearest truck stop or state welcome center. This item will be a huge lifesaver! Road trips are fun but if you forget the simplest thing your trip could come to a screeching halt. . We hope this helped and we hope you enjoy your road trip! Georgia: In the city of Marietta, spitting out of your car or a bus is illegal. If you are in a moving truck or riding a bicycle, however, spit away. Kansas: It’s illegal to transport dead poultry on Kansas Avenue in Topeka. Does that include delicious fried chicken tenders? Louisiana: A female driver’s husband is required to wave a flag in front of her car before she can drive it. REALLY? Mississippi: Do not honk your horn in Oxford, because it’s against the law. No fun! Missouri: You cannot honk someone else’s horn in University City. Yet you can grab hold of the steering wheel and commandeer the car. Oklahoma: It is against the law to read a comic book while driving. The law doesn’t mention newspapers and magazines, however, so we suppose those are fine. Tennessee: It is illegal to shoot any game other than whales from a moving vehicle. Apparently whales are a nuisance in Tennessee? Texas: You must have windshield wipers to register a car. The windshield though is optional. We hope these weird laws enlighten you and give you some laughs as well. SNACK CONTAINERS: On a road trip, accidents happen, especially if you’re traveling with children. A great way to keep your snacks from ending up on the floorboard is recycling flip-top coffee creamer containers into snack containers. They are easy to fill up with the kids’ favorite snack, feature a snap lid that closes tight to prevent spills, and they’re easy to manage while on the road. DIY HELP SACK: It’s always a good idea to be prepared in case you or a traveling companion gets car sick. One way to keep little nausea from turning into a big mess: create a ready-to-go sickness kit out of a plastic storage bag containing the essentials. FOUKE MONSTER MART 104 Highway 71 Fouke, Arkansas Fouke, Arkansas is known for its legends about the Boggy Creek Monster, a seven-foot-tall Bigfoot-like creature that has reportedly been seen by locals since the 1940s. It is described as being completely covered in reddish-brown hair, leaving three-toed tracks, and having a foul odor. Fouke Monster Mart is where you go if you want to find out more about the Boggy Creek Monster. The souvenir store sells monster t-shirts and postcards, and it still has a plaster cast of the monster’s foot on display. To get to the Fouke Monster Mart, just follow U.S. 71 into town, the store is just north of Butler Street. THORNCROWN CHAPEL 12968 US-62, Eureka Springs, AR Just west of the historic town of Eureka Springs is the fabulous Thorncrown Chapel. Opened in 1980, the chapel is situated in the vast rugged Ozark hills of colored flagstone, and has had over seven million visitors. Thorncrown Chapel is a wooden structure rising forty-eight feet and has over 6,000 square feet of glass. Thorncrown has won numerous architectural rewards throughout the years. Admission is free, it’s a beautiful view you do not want to miss! JONES BAR-B-Q DINER 219 W. Louisiana St. Marianna, AR What’s summer without barbeque?! If you pride yourself as a legit barbeque connoisseur, you have to go to Jones Bar-B-Q Diner for some of the best in Arkansas. Located in the quiet delta town of Marianna, Jones Bar-B-Q is a family-owned restaurant best known for its award-winning shredded barbecue pork sandwiches. It is definitely worth the drive! Their tasty signature vinegary sauce comes from a recipe that dates back to just after the Civil War. It’s downright good! The Boston Mountains Scenic Loop Tired of being cooped up in the house? Then pile the family in the car and drive the Boston Mountains Scenic Loop, otherwise known as U.S. Highway 71.  Boston Mountains Scenic Loop was once a stagecoach route in the mid 19th century. This gorgeous scenic drive will take you through several twists and turns through pretty mountain towns and farms. Just west of U.S. 71 is I-49, it stretches over and above spectacular valleys and flowing streams. Both of these routes offer plenty of areas to stop for drivers to take photographs or even hike into the mountains. Pig Trail Scenic Byway This scenic byway is a popular route for Razorback fans and has a strong connection to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for Razorback sports. This is another beautiful way through the Boston Mountains, which also crosses the Mulberry River. Take Ark. 23 from the south boundary of the Ozark National Forest to its intersection with Ark. 16 at Brashears to get the best views out of this 19-mile drive. NATIONAL SCENIC 7 BYWAY The state’s first state-designated scenic byway travels through four of the state’s varied geographical regions. The highway begins near El Dorado, Arkansas, rolls into Hot Springs through the Arkansas River Valley  then takes you up into the Ozark Mountains to Harrison, Arkansas.
