The first item on your list – and what we think is most important – is to check your tires. Low tire pressure happens during the cold months so it is important to check the air pressure on a regular basis. Tires that are low on pressure can pull one way or the other which could lead to you getting pulled right off the road into a ditch. This is scary and avoidable. Second, let’s chat about battery life. Could you imagine your car dying on a freezing cold night and being stuck? Not fun and again, avoidable. In the initial days of winter, the battery can deliver a reduced output with increased use of lights, heater and blower. Since the battery works harder during cold weather, it could lose power faster. Check your battery before winter officially begins so you won’t be stranded in the cold.

Lastly, check your wiper blades. Winter naturally brings more precipitation – rain, slush and even snow – in addition to less daylight. If your wiper blades are skipping or making loud scraping noises when in use, or aren’t doing their job properly anymore, it’s time to change them.
