Driving can be a real chore. It’s not uncommon to see improper driving in our everyday commutes, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t practice proper driving. Safety and efficiency are the name of the game and here at McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Bentonville, we’re committed to driving safe and smart. Let’s take a look at some of our most important rules to the road.
1. Using your turn signals
The most infuriating thing to see on the road is the lack of turn signals before merging or turning. Be part of the change and work toward bettering your habit or allowing drivers to see your signals and potentially change their bad habits.
2. No feet on the dash
This one is just as much about hygiene as it is your safety. Nobody wants a pair of gross feet on their dash, nor do they want a pair of feet going through their windshield in the event of an accident. Think about your piggies before propping them up next time.
3. Using the left lane for passing
The left lane was designed for drivers to pass slower traffic in the right lane. Sure, it’s frustrating when Linda from down the street is hogging the left lane, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t exercise smart and safe driving.
4. Zipper-Merging
Call it crazy, but research has proven that waiting until the last minute to merge in a closed lane situation is the most efficient way to drive. The zipper-merge method will keep cars merging in a left-right-left pattern and prevent blockage on closed roads.
5. Pay attention at lights
Nobody wants to be held up at a light just because someone wasn’t paying attention. Don’t just look down at your phone after coming to a stop. Stay alert and keep traffic flowing.
6. Don’t text/drive
No explanation needed on this one. Don’t text and drive folks.
7. Pull over for emergency vehicles
You hear the sirens before you see the vehicle. A quick glance into the rearview and everyone is starting to pull onto the sides of the road. What do you do? No brainer. You always move over for emergency vehicles and in the state of Arkansas, it’s required that you move over to the furthest lane that the emergency vehicle is in. Be mindful of this one. Ensuring the emergency vehicles can get to the scene as quickly as possible is in everyone’s best interest.
8. Don’t leave kids/pets in hot vehicles
Conditions can get extreme in a hot car and our loved ones don’t need to suffer. Always check before getting out of the car and make sure that everyone is out and accounted for. Simply rolling down the windows doesn’t cut it and it’s better to be safe in this situation than sorry.
9. Don’t park at the pump
We need gas people. This isn’t rocket science.
10. Easy on the backseat driving
Enough said.
Have you broken a couple of these rules? No sweat. There’s always time to practice your driver safety, especially behind the wheel of a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica.
