McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram

The 2019 Ram 1500 is winning awards one right after the other for its groundbreaking styling, comfort, engineering and performance, and they just chalked up another big one with the news that influential automotive publication WardsAuto has including the 2019 Ram 1500’s standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque to their Top 10 Engines of 2019 list! It’s the ninth consecutive year that an engine produced for a Chrysler Dodge Jeep or Ram vehicle has been included on the prestigious list.

This marks the 25th year of the Top 10 Engines list for Wards, which has been reviewing and critiquing automobile design and engineering for over 100 years. Editors with Wards Auto chose the winners after evaluating more than 30 engines and hybrid powertrain systems through extensive real-world road testing. While noting that the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 has been used in CDJR vehicles for nearly a decade, WardsAuto editors lauded the addition of the groundbreaking eTorque mild-hybrid system as a “marvelous innovation” that “ provides efficient power boost at launch and improves fuel economy” while working seamlessly to get the 2019 Ram 1500 moving from a standing stop.

“eTorque shows its stuff in various ways, including putting the fullsize truck in motion,” said Drew Winter, senior content director at WardsAuto. “Typically, moving automotive mass from a standstill gobbles up fuel. But that’s mitigated by a dollop of electrical propulsion. The result: Our judges saw up to 22 mpg during more than 500 miles of testing. That’s outstanding for a 2½-ton truck with 4-wheel-drive that never feels underpowered. eTorque makes the vehicle’s fuel-saving stop-start system work almost imperceptibly. It’s one of the best around.”

Introduced in the 2019 Ram 1500, the eTorque system — which is also available on the 5.7-liter Hemi — compensates for the dip in low-end torque while towing by replacing the alternator with a small, liquid-cooled electric generator that constantly feeds power to a suitcase-sized, 48-volt battery pack hidden in the rear of the cab. When the system senses a need for low-end torque when towing a heavy load, hillclimbing or taking off from a standing stop, the generator instantly switches to become a powerful electric motor, drawing energy from the battery pack and transmitting torque directly to the crankshaft via the same eight-rib, heavy-duty drive belt used for charging.

In 2019 Ram models equipped with eTorque, the system delivers up to 90 ft.-lbs of torque to the crankshaft. On 2019 Ram models equipped with the legendary 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the torque gains from eTorque are even more substantial, with up to 130 lb.-ft of added grunt. The system is also used by the 2019 Ram 1500’s fuel-saving start/stop system to restart the 2019 Ram 1500 almost instantaneously after the engine shuts down at stoplights.

Designed for the heavy-duty performance demanded by truck owners, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 in the 2019 Ram 1500 is made of high-strength t380 aluminum alloy, with cast iron cylinder bore liners. In the low end, six-bolt crankshaft bearing caps create an extremely robust bottom end, while cast aluminum pistons treated with friction reducing coating and drive-forged connecting rods fight heat and provide even more strength. Up top, dual overhead camshafts and four-valve per cylinder heads with integrated exhaust manifolds allow the 2019 Ram 1500 to breath deep.

“The versatility of our workhorse Pentastar V-6 engine family is unquestioned, with more than 9 million produced,” said Ram’s head of powertrain engineering, Bob Lee. “The new eTorque mild-hybrid system receiving the Wards 10 Best recognition validates our mission to provide customers optimal ownership value without sacrificing performance.”

It’s one more way that the 2019 Ram 1500 is getting noticed, convincing the critics, and changing the truck game as we know it. Want to come see what all the fuss is about? Jeep Gladiator

It’s been sixteen years since the last Jeep vehicle with a truck bed last rolled off the assembly line and into a dealer showroom, but Jeep fans have kept the dream of a new Jeep pickup alive ever since.

They won’t have to wait much longer, it seems, with Jeep taking the wraps off one of their most anticipated projects in decades: the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator truck! Based on the mechanicals and styling of the legendary Jeep Wrangler — including the Wrangler’s removable top and doors(!) — the crew-cab Jeep Gladiator mixes great styling and unstoppable drivetrain components to create what Jeep promises will be the most capable mid-size pickup ever, including best-in-class towing capacity, on or off-road.

If you love the styling of the new 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL, the look of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator should have you stoked to get truckin’. The differences between Wrangler and Gladiator from the rear doors forward are subtle, with the Gladiator’s iconic seven-slot grille sporting slightly wider grille slots than Wrangler for increased airflow while towing, plus a gently swept back grill shell for improved aerodynamics.

Out back is where the truck magic happens. Lopping off the standard 4-door Jeep Wrangler body tub and lift-off top just behind the rear doors, Jeep designers have installed a real-deal five-foot cargo bed. Gladiator’s frame is 19.4 inches longer than the four-door Wrangler to accommodate the box. With a 218 -inch wheelbase, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is the longest vehicle in the Jeep lineup.

In addition to up to 30 inches of water fording capability, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will offer maximum payload of 1,600 pounds, and best-in-class maximum towing of 7,650 pounds — over three and a half tons.

At the rear, rectangular, surface-mounted tail lamps should be familiar to Wrangler lovers, while the dampened tailgate with three individual stop points is all-new, as is under-bed lighting, an available AC power source, integrated high-strength tie downs, and an optional spray on bedliner. A full-size spare tire mounts under the bed just behind the rear axle, with the space able to accommodate up to a 35-inch tire.

It’s been almost two-decades since a true convertible pickup graced American streets (looking in your direction, Dodge Dakota convertible) but the 2020 Gladiator continues the Wrangler’s carefree, topless ways with removable Freedom Panels over the front seats that come off easily with the twist of a handle, and the ability to blow the whole roof off that sucker just by removing a few Torx bolts with the supplied wrench kit. The all-aluminum doors, shared with Jeep Wrangler, are similarly easy to remove with just a few bolts.

If the ease of a cloth convertible top is more your thing, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator has one of those available too: the premium Sunrider soft top, which folds easily, and can be opened partially or fully in minutes. In addition, you can remove four more bolts and fold down the windshield onto the hood, with the windshield frame and rear view mirror remaining in place and ready to provide protection and views of those you’re leaving in the dust.

Coolest of all for serious off-roaders, the 2020 Gladiator Rubicon can be equipped with all the bombproof off-road components that make the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon such an off-road beast, including the unstoppable Rock-Trac 4×4 system, third-gen Dana 44 axles with electronic swaybar disconnect, Tru-Lock electric front and rear axle lockers, a lifted stance, a 77.2-to-1 crawl ratio, and Rubicon’s more generous fender flares and 33-inch all-terrain tires, plus steel front and rear bumpers and skid plates.

Standard power in the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is the reliable and efficient 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, with 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque on demand, backed by either a six-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic. Coming in 2020 is the all-new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine, with a whopping 442-lb.-ft. of mud-hungry torque, 260 horsepower and a diesel’s legendarily fuel-stingy economy.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator truck will be available in four trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Overland and Rubicon, with manufacturing soon to begin at the historic Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio. Jeep says they will begin arriving in showrooms in the second quarter of 2019, just in time for summer!

Still not convinced? Then read on for seven reasons why you should trade in your old heap for a beautiful new 2019 Ram 1500! Then come see us at McLarty Daniel CDJR, where our great deals and service after the sale will make you a customer for life!

1) Just look at it!: While other truck designs make a desperate play for your attention with bulges, scoops, lumps and bumps, the 2019 Ram 1500 is all refinement and class, with just the right amount of tasteful chrome, bold and purposeful lines, and the most aerodynamic shape of any full-size truck.

2) Up to 12,750 lbs. max towing: It doesn’t get any better than the best, and the 2019 Ram 1500 features best-in-class V8 towing of up to 12,750 pounds when properly equipped, plus 2,300 pounds of maximum payload

3) The revolutionary eTorque system: The engineers at Ram are always looking for a way to make the Ram 1500 more capable, and they took a big jump in that direction with the incredible eTorque mild-hybrid system. The heart of the system is an engine-powered generator, which constantly sends juice to suitcase-sized battery pack in the back wall of the cab. When eTorque senses you need more low-end torque, the generator switches to become a powerful DC motor, sending up to 130 ft.-lbs. of torque directly to the crank.

4) Legendary Hemi Power: Ask any gearhead to name the most legendary engine in history, and chances are they’re going to say one word: Hemi. The legend continues in the 2019 Ram 1500, with the available 5.7-liter Hemi, packing 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. of torque.

5) Available four-corner air ride: Already in a class by itself thanks to the ride delivered by the front and rear coil spring suspension, your 2019 Ram 1500 can get even cushier — and more capable — with the available four-corner air ride suspension. Not only does the system smooth out the bumps and automatically level the 2019 Ram 1500 when you hook on a heavy trailer, it also lowers the truck slightly at highway speeds, making it more aerodynamic and saving you fuel.

6) Premium audio by Harman Kardon: Bring the noise with the 2019 Ram 1500’s available Harman Kardon premium audio system, with 19 high-end speakers and 900-watts of amplification. Let’s put it this way: it’s literally the most powerful factory audio system ever installed in a truck.

7) The biggest touchscreen of any pickup: In-dash screens are all the rage in design these days, and Ram has always had the philosophy of go big or go home. They definitely went big with the available Uconnect 12-inch touchscreen, which features navigation, smartphone connectivity, SiriusXM radio control and more. It’s the biggest touchscreen available in any truck.

We’ve only shaved the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the incredible features, performance, technology and comfort to be found in the 2019 Ram 1500. All that’s left for you to do now is come drive one and see what makes this truck better and more capable than any other. Stop in today at McLarty Daniel CDJR of Bentonville, where our great selection, honest deals and service after the sale will make you a customer for life!

In the history of racing, few engines have attained the legendary status of the 426 cubic inch Hemi V8. Produced in vanishingly small quantities, with a valve train that even Dodge techs found complicated to work on and keep adjusted properly back in the day, the 426 Hemi was nonetheless embraced almost immediately by performance enthusiasts who wanted to go fast. Thanks to its large displacement and high horsepower, the engine earned the nickname “The Elephant” soon after it was introduced as a super-high output racing engine in 1965, and later slightly detuned for street cars like legendary Hemi Barracudas, Chargers, Coronets and Road Runners.

With all things muscle car back in vogue, Mopar Performance has managed to one-up even the mighty 426 Hemi engines of the 1960s and early 70’s with the “Hellephant,” a new 426 Hemi crate engine that uses the latest in materials, fuel management, supercharging and engineering techniques to produce an astounding 1,000 horsepower and 950 lb.-ft. of torque on regular pump gasoline, straight out of the box.

Introduced at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, the Hellephant is the highest horsepower crate engine ever offered by an original equipment manufacturer, and will drop directly into many original Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler muscle cars and truck with the help of a Hellephant installation kit. The engine assembly includes a flywheel, front-sump oil pan, throttle body, fuel injectors, water pump and coil packs.

The engine achieves that astounding four-digit horsepower number thanks in part to increased displacement, with a 4-inch stroke and 4.125-inch cylinder bore in an all-aluminum block to keep weight low, plus a special high-lift valve train and custom forged pistons. Capping the engine is an improved, high output supercharger. The “Hell” in the “Hellephant” name is a nod to many of the performance mods used in the engine being perfected through the incredible Dodge Demon and Hellcat Challenger models of recent years. A 707-horsepower “Hellcrate” Hemi was introduced at last year’s SEMA show.

Showcasing the new Hellephant crate engine at SEMA was a special custom car build: a 1968 Dodge Charger named the SuperCharger, which Dodge had on display as well. Featuring the Hellephant engine backed by a T-6060 six speed manual transmission from a Challenger Hellcat, widebody Challenger SRT Demon-style fender flares, a Hellcat-style hood scoop, and a host of custom car tricks on virtually every part and panel, the metallic gray old school muscle car was a big hit at SEMA, mobbed by fans for the entire show.

“Our enthusiasts crave power and performance and our new ‘Hellephant’ Mopar Crate HEMI engine and kit deliver huge horsepower and torque in a plug-and-play package that is unique in the industry,” said Steve Beahm, Head of Parts & Service for Dodge parent company FCA North America. “The 1968 Dodge Charger is one of the hottest classic cars, which is why we decided to use it as a starting point for the ‘Super Charger’ Concept. It’s an amazing vehicle and a great showcase for our ‘Hellephant’ engine.”

Dodge says the 426 Hellephant crate engine and installation kit will be on sale through Dodge dealers in the first quarter of 2019, and that includes the parts counter here at McLarty Daniel CDJR of Bentonville! No word yet on pricing. For more information, visit the official Hellephant website at www.cratehemi.com.

Jeep Renegade

Fiat-Chrysler, the parent company of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat, announced earlier this week that they plan to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the popular Jeep Renegade in early 2020. It comes on the heels of last year’s announcement that the company will also offer a plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler for the first time in 2020 as well.

Unlike battery-only cars like the Tesla, plug-in hybrid vehicles have both a battery pack and a gasoline engine that work in tandem to extend mileage, with power provided by either the battery, gasoline or both simultaneously.

The Renegade announcement is the next step in the company’s turn toward electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids spelled out in the new five-year plan released earlier this year, with FCA saying it would invest $10.4 billion in electric and hybrid technology, and offer up to 30 different vehicles with the option of electric powertrains by 2022. The plans for Jeep call for 10 plug-in hybrid models and four fully electric models within five years.

Currently, the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica is the only CDJR vehicle available with a plug-in hybrid system. The first hybrid minivan in the world, the system allows a 2019 Pacifica hybrid to achieve fuel mileage of over 84 miles per gallon, or run on battery only for more than 30 miles. The 2019 Ram 1500 also has a so-called “mild hybrid” system called eTorque, which uses a generator on the engine to send excess power to a suitcase-sized battery pack mounted in the rear wall of the cab. When the system senses a need for more torque while towing or hauling, the generator instantly switches to a powerful electric motor, sending up to 130 ft-lbs. of additional grunt directly to the crankshaft through the same high-strength belt used to turn the generator.

The plug-in hybrid 2020 Renegade will be built at the FCA plant in Melfi, Italy, which currently produces all Renegade models for both North America and the rest of the world. Since the Renegade was introduced in 2014, over 742,000 examples have been built there. FCA has dedicated a $230 million investment in the Melfi factory to gear up for the production of electric and hybrid powertrains. The 2019 Renegade received a major update and redesign for the new model year, in addition to a new 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood, jointing the 2.4 liter four-cylinder. The 1.3-liter turbo four is expected to be the gasoline component of the 2020 Renegade’s new PHEV system.

Jeep has not announced where they plan to sell the new plug-in hybrid Renegade, or what can of mileage and range we can expect when it does debut, but with America gone big on electric and hybrid vehicles of late, it’s a good bet we’ll see it in the United States.

ASTONISHING LEGENDS
Online at: www.astonishinglegends.com
As good ol’ Will Shakespeare said, “there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy,” and boy, he wasn’t kidding. Bigfoot, UFOs, ghosts, astral projection, sea monsters, haunted houses, curses, the list of things people believe in with all their hearts goes on and on, and some say there evidence is out there to support it all. Exploring the weird and unusual is the name of the game at the Astonishing Legends podcast. Hosted by friends Scott Philbrook and Forrest Burgess, the show will no doubt remind viewers of a certain vintage of the paranormal episodes of the old “Unsolved Mysteries” series with Robert Stack. Each episode is meticulously researched and well presented, with a skeptical eye that isn’t completely closed to the idea that some of this stuff might actually be real. With over 120 episodes on topics like ghost ships, famous poltergeist cases, the Oak Island Treasure Pit, the Mothman and much, much more, there’s a little something for everybody, and it’s all thought provoking.

THE SIMPLY SCARY PODCAST
Online at: www.simplyscarypodcast.com/series/the-simply-scary-podcast
One of the funnest things to do in October is build a nice campfire on a cool night, roast some hot dogs and marshmallows, and finish up with a rousing round of good, old fashioned ghost stories. Tales like “The Golden Arm” and “The Vanishing Hitchhiker,” have been scaring young folks in the firelight for generations. Now the fun has gone digital, with The Simply Scary Podcast, which revolves around the retelling of new and classic stories of things that go bump in the night. It’s part of the Simply Scary Podcast Network, which features five different podcasts, all revolving around the genre of scary tales. The original is our favorite, though, a throwback to the good ol’ days of Halloween storytelling, with the fear factor punched up considerably through the addition of creepy sound effects and music.

THE BLACK TAPES
Online at: www.theblacktapes.com
From “The Exorcist” to Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” a lot of what we consider scary is really about our fear that we might tumble out of our safe, secure and completely explainable lives and fall down the rabbit hole to a hidden underworld where science is no match for the dark things lurking there. That’s the reality faced by radio show host Alex Reagan, the lead character in the outstanding serialized fictional podcast “The Black Tapes.” Started in 2015 and spanning three seasons and thirty episodes, “The Black Tapes” follows Reagan (voiced by actor Lori Henry), as she looks into the unsolved cases of paranormal investigator and skeptic Dr. Richard Strand (played by voice actor Christian Sloan), which she calls Strand’s Black Tapes. Before long, Reagan is hip deep in demons, paranormal activity and the unexplainable. “The Black Tapes” may not be real, but it sure is a good time. If you’re a fan of “The X-Files,” this one is especially fun and furious.

THE FACULTY OF HORROR
Online at: www.facultyofhorror.com
If you’re a film buff, you don’t have to wait until October to get your dose of horror. Horror flicks are big business these days, and it seems that every month, there’s another film in theaters that seeks to see how many times they can get you to throw your popcorn into the air in terror. The Faculty of Horror Podcast, hosted by film professors and horror fanatics Andrea Subissati and Alexandra West, takes you on a weekly journey into films about horror, terror and the macabre, discussing not only the plots and behind-the-scenes details of some of the greatest and most infamous horror films ever made, but also discussing WHY we find those films so scary. The answer tells you a lot about not only horror films, but why we seek out the sensation of being scared in the first place.

October is here, the month when the chill seeps into the air, the leaves begin to change, and thoughts turn to Things That Go Bump in the Night as Halloween approaches. Whether you believe in spooks, specters and all manner of ghosties or not, you’ve got to admit that it’s a lot of fun telling those stories around the campfire. Another fun thing to do, if your nerves can take it, is to visit some of the places in Northwest Arkansas that are rumored to be haunted by things unseen. Arkansas has more than our share of ghostly tales, some rooted wholly in folklore while others feature more compelling eyewitness accounts. Seen below are a few of the purportedly haunted places in Northwest Arkansas which you can visit yourself. Though you’ll have to be the ultimate judge of how much credence to give those stories, the only way to find out for certain if there’s anything to them is to pump up your courage and go there. Speaking of:  if you need a car, truck, SUV or van to get you and your ghost huntin’ crew there, stop in today at McLarty Daniel CDJR in Bentonville, where our friendly deals and great service after the sale will make you a customer for life — though hopefully not the afterlife! We don’t need any ghosts around here!

THE ARKANSAS AIR AND MILITARY MUSEUM
4290 South School Street, Fayetteville
The largest collection of historic aircraft and aviation memorabilia on display in the state, the Arkansas Air and Military Museum at Drake Field in Fayetteville is notable for many things, including being housed in one of the country’s last wooden aircraft hangers, a remainder the massive build-up the field experienced during World War II. Another leftover from days gone by, according to those who work there, is the museum’s resident ghost: a man with an old-fashioned haircut, baggy trousers and a leather flight jacket. Eyewitnesses say the enigmatic young aviator has been seen in both the museum library and staring sadly out windows at the field before slowly fading away, startling guests who assumed he was flesh and blood. Nobody knows who the man was, but his jacket — and the plentiful tragedies that occurred at Drake Field when it was a center for military flight instruction — would suggest he may have been one of the many to lose their life at Drake Field while preparing to wage war against fascism in the skies over Europe and the Pacific.

THE CRESCENT HOTEL AND SPA
75 Prospect Avenue, Eureka Springs
Given that Eureka Springs has so many historic buildings, it’s probably natural that the town has attracted more than its share of spook stories. No location in Eureka, however, is more famous for reports of paranormal activity than the Crescent Hotel. Perched on the peak of West Mountain overlooking the city, the 78-room hotel was Crescent was completed in May 1886. One of the most luxurious hotels in the nation, guests to the Crescent had plentiful opportunities for amusement, including a swimming pool, a stable with over 100 saddle horses for guests to ride, balconies overlooking the valley below, and a beautiful, wood-trimmed lobby centered around the massive limestone fireplace. After interest in the healing powers of spring water waned, the hotel was used as a finishing school for young women, and later a hospital run by notorious quack medicine purveyor Norman Baker. There are several ghosts rumored to haunt the Crescent. The most famous is “Michael,” said to be the mischievous spirit of a young Irish stonemason who fell to his death during the construction, his body landing in the area of what is now Room 218. Today, Room 218 is said to be the most haunted spot in the hotel, with guests reporting pounding in the walls, flickering lights and figures emerging from the bathroom mirror. Famous flim-flam man Norman Baker is another permanent guest said to roam the Crescent, along with several other spooks, including a dapper-dressed Victorian gentleman, a uniformed waiter eternally rushing a tray of butter to a guest’s room, and a frumpy woman named Theodora who is sometimes seen in Room 419, telling witnesses she has cancer before vanishing into thin air.

PEEL MANSION MUSEUM AND HERITAGE GARDENS
400 S. Walton Blvd, Bentonville
A Confederate colonel and pioneer lawyer who went on to serve as the first native-born Arkansan elected to the U.S. Congress, Samuel West Peel was already something of a legend by 1875 when he built a magnificent, 14-room Italianate mansion on the outskirts of Bentonville for his wife, Mary Emaline Berry Peel. Peel named the home “The Oaks” after the many massive trees surrounding the house, and the couple would eventually raise nine children there before Peel’s death in December 1924 at the age of 93. Today, Peel Mansion is a museum with period-correct antiques and furnishings, surrounded by an equally magnificent Victorian garden full of historic roses and Arkansas-native plants. Peel and some members of his family apparently loved the house so much they don’t want to leave. It’s said that the ghosts of both Colonel Peel and his daughter, Minnie Belle, haunt the house, with the staff reporting the sounds of a piano playing softly in the parlor even though there’s no one in the room, glimpses of a woman in white, an upstairs bedroom where a girl can sometimes be heard faintly crying, and visitors being pinched by unseen fingers while touring the second floor.

From pumpkin patches to spook houses to possibly real-life haunted places, Northwest Arkansas is full of things to see and do in October, and a great new or used car, truck, van or SUV from McLarty Daniel CDJR of Bentonville can get you there in style, at a price you can afford. Stop in soon to see us for a test drive, or check out our big selection online right now! Happy Halloween!

STOW N’ GO SEATING
If you’ve ever owned a minivan, or if your parents did, there’s a good chance you remember the hernia-inducing chore of wrestling the three-row seating in and out, maybe even with some cursing when somebody got their finger pinched while latching them down. That’s a thing of the past with the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica’s Stow N’ Go seating, which features seats that flip down into the floor like a magic trick, leaving a totally flat cargo hold floor that’s perfect for loading even bulky items like bikes, kayaks and camping gear.

STOW N’ VAC
Kids are kids, and even when they’re trying hard not to, they’re going to make a mess. While cleanup used to mean lugging a vacuum out of the garage or just living with millions of little crumbs in the carpet, the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica innovates again with Stow N’ Vac, an on-board wet-dry vacuum system powered by Rigid, the brand that supplies power tools to Home Depot. No plugging in, no hauling out the vacuum, just hit the switch and extend the hidden vacuum hose, which can reach every corner of the passenger compartment with ease.

287 HORSEPOWER!
Just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to have a little fun too! Under the hood of the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica is the reliable, economical power of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, with a whopping 287 horsepower while maintaining a world-class 28 miles to the gallon on the highway. That’s sure to put some smiles into your miles.

FULL SPEED COLLISION WARNING PLUS
From backseat drivers to a million questions about why leaves are green and the sky is blue, when you’re on a road trip with the family, there’s a lot going on that can take your attention off the road, a place where a moment’s inattention can spell disaster. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica has your back, though, with Full-Speed Collision Warning Plus, a system which utilizes cutting-edge sensors in the front bumper and grille to detect oncoming obstacles in the roadway, like a stopped car, and deploys audio and visual alerts to attract your attention to the danger. If you don’t brake in time, the system can even active emergency braking to bring you to a stop and help avoid or reduce the impact of a crash.

PARALLEL AND PERPENDICULAR PARK ASSIST
While the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica is sleek and sporty, parking a van in a tight parallel or perpendicular parking space can still be a chore. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica is there for you again with Parallel and Perpendicular Parking Assist. Just pull up to the slot where you want to park, and the system will both sense the space and give you steering, braking and accelerator pedal instructions to help you park perfectly.

We’ve only managed to touch the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the ways the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica works overtime to help make your day go easier and smoother. That’s because it’s the minivan that was built from the ground up by parents, for parents, for a vehicle that’s packed with features to make a parent’s job easier. Explore America’s Pastime with the Hot Springs Historic Baseball Trail!Locations all over Hot Springs
As a destination city that has been drawing in the famous and infamous for over 125 years, Hot Springs National Park has played host to all manner of Americans, but few so famous as the Major League Baseball players who came to the Spa City in the early 20th Century to shake off the winter blues prior to the season. Way back in 1886, the legendary A.G. Spalding and Cap Anson brought the team then known as the Chicago White Stockings (now the Chicago Cubs) down to Hot Springs for the then-unheard of concept of “spring training.” After seeing the positive effects of getting a jump on conditioning, other teams followed suit. Soon, everybody who was anybody in baseball was spending up to a month every spring in town, including giants like Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Dizzy Dean, and hundreds of others. With stops all over town, the Hot Springs Historic Baseball Trail leads visitors through this nearly-forgotten piece of local lore, with an interactive app and driving tour that can be downloaded at: www.hotspringsbaseballtrail.com

Give your Jeep a workout at Hot Springs ORV Park!2100 Millcreek Road
Your Jeep Wrangler was built to take on the humps, lumps and bumps that would put other vehicles in the junkyard, so it’s good to let that sucker stretch its legs and show its capability from time to time. A perfect place to do that is Hot Springs ORV Park. Formerly known as Superlift ORV Park, the massive 1,254 acre facility is a world-class off-roading and rock-crawling destination, as proven by the constant stream of high-dollar, full cage crawlers headed out there on the weekend. Open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to dusk, Hot Springs ORV Park features over 75 miles of varying-level trails, in difficulties from an easy ride in a stock Jeep to hairy, near-vertical climbs, giant boulders, and ravines that will test the limits of even high-horsepower rigs. The park accepts pretty much anything motorized with wheels on it, including 4x4s, ATVs dirtbikes and side-by-sides. ATV and motorcycle riders must wear a DOT-approved helmet. There’s RV and tent camping on site so you can make a weekend of it. Admission is $30 per day for 4x4s or side-by-sides, and $15 for ATVs and motorcycles. For more info, visit their website at www.orvpark.com

Get your ‘Cue on at McClard’s Barbecue505 Albert Pike Road
Back in 1928, when a tapped-out visitor to Hot Springs’ Westside Tourist Court offered the owners the recipe for what he claimed was “the world’s greatest barbecue sauce” in lieu of payment for his $10 stay, little did he know he was helping start one of Arkansas’s longest-running and most storied culinary enterprises: McClard’s Bar-B-Q. Still open, still using that barbecue sauce recipe, and still run by the same family all these years later, McClard’s is just a few blocks down from where Alex and Gladys McClard’s little tourist motel, gas station and diner once stood. Their great grandson, who now owns the place, is still dishing up some of the best barbecue in the state to travelers, some of whom drive for miles to get their regular McClard’s fix. The menu, like the restaurant, is old-school and simple: excellent, slow-smoked ribs, pork and beef brisket, served “wet” with the tangy, flavorful sauce or “dry” without it. Not in the mood for barbecue, tuck in to another Arkansas delicacy: McClard’s famous southern hot tamales. If you’re really hungry, go for the “Whole Spread,” with two tamales topped with Fritos, beans, chopped beef, cheese and onions. Note: they’re cash only, so don’t forget to hit the ATM before you go.

Let the Gangster Museum of America make you an offer you can’t refuse!
510 Central Avenue
As was the case with the aforementioned baseball players, the rowdy nightlife of Hot Springs in the 1920s also drew in a more nefarious crowd, with legit mobsters from northern cities like Chicago, New York and Boston coming to town to partake in the baths — and the gambling and other vices that were allowed to go on while police conveniently looked the other way. Gangsters like Lucky Luciano, Owney Madden, and even the infamous Al Capone were all regulars in the city back in the day, strolling the boulevards in the company of Tommy Gun-toting bodyguards and cruising the famous Bathhouse Row in armored Cadillac limousines. Though the law or the bloody results of living and dying by the sword eventually caught up to the gangsters who once haunted Hot Springs in the lawless glory days, you can relive some of that history at the Gangster Museum of America. The only museum solely dedicated to the history of organized crime in America, the Gangster Museum is a great place to learn about the wild ol’ times in Hot Springs, when mobsters and their gun molls rubbed elbows at the speakeasies with local politicians. General admission is $15 for adults, and $6 for kids 8-12.
